A collection of open projects from various fields. Some about AI, some just make working on a computer more convenient. All free.

Recording and Video

  • Recordly — screen recording with built-in editor. Has timeline, automatic zoom, webcam overlay and presets. Convenient for demo videos when OBS is overkill.
  • HandBrake — video converter for Windows, macOS and Linux. Transcodes almost any format to MP4, MKV or WebM with adjustable quality, size, frame rate, audio and subtitles.

Directories

  • free-programming-books — free books, courses, podcasts and conference recordings on programming in dozens of languages. Russian language materials are in files with the -ru suffix.
  • public-apis — a list of free APIs by category: finance, maps, news, weather and much more.
  • Awesome-Design-Tools — links to interface tools: fonts, icons, 3D models, gradients, mockups.

AI on Your Own Hardware

  • agenticSeek — a local agent in the spirit of Manus: searches the web, works with files, writes and runs code. By itself it's a shell; you connect a local or cloud model via API.
  • Vane — a local search engine for deep topic exploration. Structured the same way: a shell plus your model. Previously the project was called Perplexica.
  • Duix-Avatar — a toolkit for creating a talking avatar from video and a voice sample. Requirements are high: the collection author mentions 32 GB of RAM, a video card like RTX 4070 and about 100 GB on disk. Use only your own appearance and voice or with someone's consent.

Convenience and Privacy

  • Rainmeter — widgets and desktop customization for Windows. It's an old and tested project, there are many ready-made skins, you can write your own.
  • Invidious — an alternative YouTube interface without ads and without a Google account. Subscriptions and notifications work, watch history can be imported.
  • Sherlock — checks which platforms have a username registered. Useful for finding a free nickname for a project or finding your forgotten accounts.

How to Use This Collection

Before installing, check the Releases section and the list of open tasks: they show whether the project is active. For local AI tools, first verify the hardware requirements.
